Feel Like Singing?
Songs can sometimes touch us in ways that the spoken word cannot. Have you ever heard a melody for the first time that made you stop what you were doing and just listen? Or perhaps there was a time when you finally listened to the words of a song you have heard many times before, and you were suddenly overcome with emotion? Maybe you always knew the words of a song, but something happened in your life that changed what those familiar words meant to you.
For each of those scenarios mentioned above, I can think of a song that affected me in such a way. All of my examples are songs I know from church. What a blessing God gives to his Church in gifted musicians and songwriters! God the Holy Spirit works through every form of the gospel, whether it is spoken, signed, printed or sung. His inspired Word has inspired believers of every generation of the Church to compose music and lyrics that honor him and spread the good news to those who will hear and sing along.
That brings us to a quick preview of our current sermon series. For the next several weeks, our sermon themes will be based on Scripture passages that inspired some of the songs we use in worship. We'll take a look at the stories behind the songs, including the songwriters' own perspectives on why these Scriptures were so important to them in their own time and place. We'll also apply these truths to our own lives and come away with a stronger faith, along with a new appreciation for these songs we know and love. As always, we invite you to join us in worship and grow in grace with us.
Your servant in Christ,
Pastor Eric Schroeder
